My New Job

As many of you know, I lost my job at Wetherspoons due to COVID-19. However, this was not due to the shut down of pubs. I had to go home to see my family amid this and my job was in the Northampton Wetherspoons (The Cordwainer). I spoke to my manager and he said that he needs to put me as a leaver as there is nothing else he can do (which is fair enough). This meant that while being back at home, I was short on money and super bored.

I went about a job search shortly after getting home. Indeed. My go to. I looked for a while and applied to many PERMANENT jobs. I stopped this after realising, that this won’t be permanent as I will definitely be going back up to Northampton. I, then, refined my search to temporary fixed term contracted jobs. And in the search, I came across Holland and Barrett. I applied and gained a response from the area manager about 2 days after. I was asked if I was still interested, and whether I could pop into the shop with my CV and my right to work documents. No interview was required (which was a great thing for me, considering how anxious I get and how much overthinking I do). I went in on Wednesday, gave my documents in, and they were all so very lovely. I got a text from the boss asking if I could start on Friday (very soon). Of course, in my bored state of mind, I said yes.

Friday - work was great. I stared at 11, the shop opens at 9. I walked in, quiet, and introduced myself. Reece works with me and I have known Reece since I was about 5. It was a reassuring sight to see him as I was very very nervous to start. The job consisted of stocking shelves, serving customers, and GETTING A FREE DRINK!! (Mostly vegan drinks but still super lovely).

Overall, it was definitely a change that I was not looking forward too but has really grown on me. i love working there and I am happy and grateful to have a job as I know some people are not. And, a good thing is that I HAVE A PERMANENT JOB IN HOLLAND AND BARRETT IN NORTHAMPTON AFTER I HAVE FINISHED MY CONTRACT HERE.
