Move in day – scary, emotional, change, different.
Move in day (Realistic view) – yes, it is scary and it may be emotional, but I didn’t cry until a week after my move in day. Your adrenaline overtakes all emotions and once you have settled in, it does all hit you. But this sudden hit is nothing to worry about.
Yes change can be scary but : Change can be a good thing but only if you make it that: 1. Prepare yourself for change - If you know it is coming then don't sit there and let it happen. Prepare yourself for it. For example, I ensured that I had the whole week after I moved in planned, including my meals, plans with the Uni and what shopping needs to be done before doing all of this. 2. Don't let yourself give in to your emotions - recognise your emotions and ensure that you deal with these emotions. Don't give in to what they make you want to do. If you're depressed, don't lie around and let it take you, you must take depression on the head and hit it so hard so it barely ever comes back. 3. Accept the change is happening - which is pretty self explanatory
I got to my accommodation with a car full of my stuff (which realistically, I did not need all of it). It was great to see a lot of people, all my age, all worried but excited to move onto a new part of their life.
Got to my room and met some of my flatmates before starting to unpack my belongings. When meeting my flatmates, little did I know that one of those girls were going to be one of my best friends at University and was about to change my University life.
After unpacking my belongings, my Mum and I had a cup of tea, before having to say our goodbyes until Christmas. I don’t think it quite hit me then how different life would be without my mum, but I know it hit her. Yes, life will be different, but I found it so much better to be able to cook for myself and learn life lessons for myself. But just remember that modern technology allows us to contact them at any point if you need them.
I sat in my room, wondering what to do with myself, but I decided to continue unpacking my things. After this, I made my room home by adding posters, pictures and plants all around. I cleaned the bathroom (as it was a little dusty) and hoovered my room. After this, I was prepared for my first day of Welcome Week including all of those Fresher’s events.
University is exciting, but very scary ideas at times. You can do it and remember, you are so strong and so brave!
